François Dupoux, the creator, maintainer and lead developer of the SystemRescueCd Live CD GNU/Linux distribution designed for system rescue and recovery tasks, has announced the release and immediate availability for download of SystemRescueCd 4.6.0.

According to the release notes, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, SystemRescueCd 4.6.0 is powered by the long-term supported Linux 3.14.50 kernel package, which is the standard kernel of the distribution, enabled by default for 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

The alternative Linux kernel packages have been updated as well, now based on the latest, most advanced, and long-term supported Linux 4.1.6 kernel, also available for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures. Moreover, this is the first release of SystemRescueCd to use the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment.

Among other changes, we can mention that François Dupoux has managed to update a few important software packages in SystemRescueCd 4.6.0, such as the Gparted 0.23.0 partition editor tool, btrfs-progs 4.1.2 and xfsprogs 3.2.4 for manipulating Btrfs and XFS file systems, as well as Ruby 2.1.6 programming language, which has been added to dev-lang.

Last but not least, the new SystemRescueCd release updates the GRUB2 bootloader software to the GRUB 2.02 Bta2-r7 release, which has been added to the sys-boot category. Download SystemRescueCd 4.6.0 right now via Softpedia or directly from the distribution's website, where you will find a Live CD ISO image that supports both old 32-bit systems and modern 64-bit machines.
