On July 13, François Dupoux, leader of the SystemRescueCd project, has informed users about the immediate availability for download of another maintenance release of his Live CD Linux distribution.

According to the brief changelog, which we've attached at the end of the blog post, the SystemRescueCd 4.5.4 release brings updates to both the standard and alternative kernels, as well as new versions of some of the most essential core components, which include e2fsprogs, xfsprogs, and btrfs-progs.

Therefore, we can report today that SystemRescueCd 4.5.4 is now powered by the Linux 3.14.48 kernel, which is used as the standard kernel in the distribution for both rescue32 and rescue64 builds, as well as the Linux 3.18.18 kernel as the alternative kernel for the altker32 and altker64 builds.

Please note that both the standard and alternative Linux kernels are LTS (Long Term Supported); in other words, they receive security patches, bug fixes, and updated drivers for a few more years than the regular kernel releases.

In addition to the updated Linux kernel packages, the SystemRescueCd 4.5.4 Live CD, which can help both advanced users and experienced system administrators with different system rescue and recovery operations, comes with updated file system utilities, such as e2fsprogs 1.42.13, xfsprogs 3.2.2, and btrfs-progs 4.0.1.
