The systemd development team, through David Herrmann, has had the pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the systemd 225 open-source, next-generation init system for GNU/Linux distributions.

According to the internal release notes (attached at the end of the article for reference), systemd 225 is a small release that adds a replacement for the "su" command in the form of a "shell" verb for the machinectl command ("machinectl shell"), which has been engineered to open a fresh shell session on the target system as a new systemd unit.

Additionally, systemd 225 introduces support for saving private-zone Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) options, as well as the ability to allow other programs to query these values into the systemd-networkd daemon that manages network configurations.

"Many bug-fixes, code cleanups, man-page extensions and some new additions to networkd and machined. Also, please don't forget to sign up quickly to systemd.conf 2015, if you plan to attend. There's only a limited number of tickets available," says David Herrmann.

As usual, you can download the systemd 225 sources right now from Softpedia, but it is recommended that you update the software in your GNU/Linux operating system, so check for an update in the next hours or days. At the moment of writing this article, systemd 225 is already available in the Testing repos of Arch Linux.
