14 DAY TRIAL // The Solus operating system is not out just yet, but it has the honor of being the first one to get the new Linux kernel that was released today, 4.1.
We don't usually see a new Linux kernel adopted in an operating system at the same time it was released, but Solus is not your regular Linux distro. It's built in such a way that implementing a new Linux kernel is very easy. Right now, users just have to perform a simple upgrade of their system in order to receive the Linux kernel 4.1 update.
"Note that the 4.1.0 Linux Kernel is now in the v1 (main) Solus repositories. As per usual, simply issue 'sudo eopkg up' (or use the software center) to upgrade. This move to 4.1.0 (released as '4.1') is part of our strategy to move certain elements to their LTS versions. The nvidia driver (352) and broadcom-sta driver have also been rebuilt and issued," said Ikey Doherty, the leader of the Solus project.
Linux kernel 4.1 was released today, and it has been deemed already an LTS released. This usually happens well into the cycle, but not for 4.1. Regardless, you can download the latest Solus Beta from Softpedia and give it a spin. The final version of the OS is just two months away, give or take, so you won't have to wait too long.
