The open-source, free, and cross-platform SMPlayer video player application was updated on November 6, 2016, to version 16.11, a release that introduces two new features and fixes various bugs reported by users since the 16.9 stable update.

Two months passed since the release of SMPlayer 16.9 and users can finally update their favorite video player app. Version 16.11 promises to implement a new option called "Show info on OSD" in the View -> OSD menu for displaying video and audio information like bitrate, resolution, container or aspect ration in the OSD (On-screen display).

"The current favorites menu in SMPlayer is not designed to handle many items, however the playlist can support without problem hundreds and even thousands of items, so I think for bookmarks with a lot of items it’s better to use the playlist," explains one of the developers in the release announcement.

The second feature added in the SMPlayer 16.11 release is the implementation of extra options in the Preferences -> Playlist panel to allow users to control the behavior of the playlist better than before. For example, you can make the playlist suitable for storing bookmarks.

Additionally, the playlist has been improved with support for the Load and Save buttons to be grouped together in a popup menu. You can download SMPlayer 16.11 for GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website. SMPlayer 16.11 is a recommended update for everyone.
