SMPlayer, a complete media player for Linux that is based on Mplayer and that uses its own set of codecs, has been upgraded to version 15.9.0 and is now available for download.

SMPlayer has been around for a long time, and it's one of the most used applications of its kind. Despite its age, the application was still missing some features, but it looks like that has been taken care of now.

Among the new features that have been added is the support for the 3D stereo filter, support for mpv, which provides new features like the possibility to display two subtitles at once, support for MKV ordered chapters and precise seeking, and improved support for YouTube.

These are just the main ones, but a lot of smaller changes and improvements have been added as well. According to the changelog, an option to set a template for screenshots has been added, it's now possible to play videos from streaming sites, the option to step back one frame has been implemented, proxy support has been added, a new H2O theme is now default, and a few other small fixes have been added as well.

As usual, you can download SMPlayer from Softpedia, but please remember that you should check your repository first. You can also check out our comprehensive review of the application if you want to know more details about it.
