David Purse from the development team of Simplicity Linux, a distribution derived from LXPup and built around the LXDE desktop environment, has announced the release of the first Beta build towards the final version of Simplicity Linux 15.7.

According to the short release notes, Simplicity Linux 15.7 Beta is now powered by Linux kernel 4.0.2, based on LXPup Tahr 14.12, and distributed in only two editions, Desktop and Netbook. However, due to some unresolved issues, there's only a 32-bit ISO image for the Desktop edition.

"There is no 64 bit version of Desktop, because we had some issues, but this will be resolved for the release edition," says David Purse. "It should also be noted that these are beta releases, so some things may change, be removed, and other things may be added. It’s a stable, working version, but still unfinished and rough around the edges."

While the Netbook flavor is lightweight and includes mostly cloud-based apps, the Desktop edition is full-featured and offers top-notch apps like LibreOffice, Mozilla Thunderbird, VLC Media Player, Google Chrome, and Spotify.

You can download the Simplicity Linux 15.7 Beta Desktop and Netbook editions right now via Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that these are pre-release versions and aren't recommended for production environments.
