Arne Exton was more than happy to drop an email to Softpedia HQ about the new release of his commercial RaspAnd project that lets users install Google's Android 5.1 Lollipop mobile operating system on a Raspberry Pi 2 SBC (Single-Board Computer).

Some of our readers might remember RaspAnd since we introduced it earlier this year, as it was quite popular at that point in time. The new version of RaspAnd brings something new to users who want to run Android 5.1 Lollipop on a Raspberry Pi 2 device, namely the Google Play Store and Google Play Services components.

"I have finally managed to include Google Play store in RaspAnd and most important Google Play Services," says Arne Exton. "I have compiled yet another Android 5.1 Lollipop system which can run on Raspberry Pi 2. I call “my” new system RaspAnd Build 3. My first version of RaspAnd is from 150405 and my second from 150527. [...] Google Play Store, AIDA64 and Geekbench were not included in Build 2 from 150527."

In addition to the Google Play Store and Google Play Services, the new RaspAnd build comes with many useful apps pre-installed, including Aptoide App Manager, Offline Maps, WPS Office, WinZIP, AIDA64, Geekbench, FileManager, Terminal Emulator, and Rotation Control Lite. RaspAnd costs $9 (€8) and is available for purchase on its website, where you can find detailed installation instructions.
