14 DAY TRIAL // Polari developer Florian Müllner informs the community about the general availability of the second snapshot towards the major 3.22 release of the open-source and straightforward IRC client designed for GNOME 3.
We've talked a lot about the upcoming GNOME 3.22 desktop environment lately, as its development cycle started last month with the 3.21.1 milestone. Now, the GNOME developers are concentrating all of their efforts on pushing the second development version to public testers, GNOME 3.21.2.
Therefore, several core components and applications are being updated to this new dev build these days, including the GTK+ GUI toolkit about which we wrote previously, and the Polari IRC client. Polari 3.21.2 has landed today, May 26, 2016, with some very interesting features.
For example, users will finally be able to use the /close command to part from a channel, upload text or images using drag and drop, paste text or images from various files, as well as access the program's help section directly from the App Menu.
Polari 3.22 coming later this year as part of GNOME 3.22
Among other changes, it looks like the intltool component is no longer a requirement for Polari when it's built from source before it is being packaged for a certain GNU/Linux operating system, and an issue that made the application to crash continuously when using the Arabic language translation has been patched.
If you want to take Polari 3.21.2 for a test drive, you can do so right now by downloading the latest source archive from our website, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that you shouldn't use it on your stable computer.
The final Polari 3.22 release is coming laters this year with even more new features and the usual improvements to its existing technologies. It will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.22 desktop environment, due for release on September 21, 2016.
