Peter Ryzhenkov has had the great pleasure of announcing the release of his Point Linux 3.0 operating system, which is currently distributed in two editions, with the MATE and Xfce desktop environments.

Dubbed Agni, Point Linux 3.0 is the first release of the distribution to replace the GNOME 3 edition with an Xfce one. It is based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating system and powered by Linux kernel 3.16.

"Point Linux team proudly announces the availability of Point Linux 3.0. This release replaces the Gnome 3 flavour with XFce flavour," says Peter Ryzhenkov in the official release notes of the distribution.

Including up-to-date packages from the upstream Debian 8 repositories, Point Linux 3.0 comes with the Point Linux Update Notifier tool, adds the Compton window compositor to the Xfce flavor for eye-candy effects, and updates the Point Linux Installer to version 0.19.8, which adds support for the Xfce desktop environment.

The Mozilla Firefox 39.0 web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird 38.0.1 email and news client have been added in Point Linux 3.0, which uses the MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment on the MATE flavor. LightDM has been updated to version 1.10.3.

Download Point Linux 3.0 right now from Softpedia, where you will find Full and Core editions for both MATE and Xfce flavors, available for 32- as well as 64-bit computers.
