Chris Buechler from pfSense has announced earlier today, June 16, 2016, that there's a new maintenance update available for the pfSense 2.3.1 FreeBSD-based firewall distribution.

pfSense 2.3.1 Update 5 (2.3.1_5) is a small bugfix release for the pfSense 2.3.1 major update announced last month, and since pfSense now lets its maintainers update only individual parts of the system, we see more and more small builds like this one patching the most annoying issues.

"2.3.1 Update 5 (2.3.1_5) is now available. Note that updates 2 through 4 were internal-only. This includes two security fixes to the web GUI, and 7 other bug fixes. The 2.3.1-RELEASE change list has been updated with an Update 5 section specifying the changes," says Chris Buechler in today's announcement.

As usual, we've attached the full changelog of the new pfSense 2.3.1 update release, and we're urging all users to apply it as soon as possible. pfSense 2.3.1 Update 5 (2.3.1_5) is already live, and it will only take a few moments of your time to install it. However, please remember that a reboot is needed after the installation.

pfSense 2.3.1 Update 5 will also update the PHP packages to version 5.6.22. If you're new to pfSense, you can download the latest build, pfSense 2.3.1, right now via our website and install it on your machines. Clicking the download link will also give you access to a review of pfSense so that you know what it can do for you.
