ownCloud Inc, the popular open source enterprise file sync and share project, has just launched commercial offerings based on version 4.5 Beta of the community edition of ownCloud.

According to the developers, ownCloud 4.5 Beta brings significantly faster uploading, downloading and syncing of files – even very large files – greater and more granular administrative control and even a presentation app.

“This beta does a great deal to scale, enhance the user experience and increase control of ownCloud,” said Frank Karlitschek, founder of ownCloud. “Personally, I also really like the shared calender functionality because it demonstrates clearly that we can live in a world of device and location independence securely and privately.”

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement.

The community edition of ownCloud now has over 450,000 users, and because it’s open source, ownCloud offers no vendor lock-in and pulls in features from the community. Download ownCloud 4.0.7 / 4.5 Beta right now from Softpedia.
