The game is still in the Early Access program

Orion Trail, a new single-player adventure developed and published by Schell Games on Steam, has been released on the Linux platform as well.

Some of you might notice the name similarity to another famous game called Oregon Trail, and this one is following the same kind of recipe for adventure, but with a much more "modern" engine and space themes.

The game is still in the Early Access program, which means that it's still under development. There are no patches or updates just yet, so it's difficult to say if the developers of the game are serious about their work, but it's been well received by the community so far.

"Orion Trail is a single player choose-your-own-space-adventure where you must rely upon your wits, your officers, and your ship to cross the deadly Orion Trail. Draft your equipment, captain, and crew from limited pools at the start of each run. Manage your Food, Fuel, Hull, and Red Shirts. Run out of any, and you’ll be in deep space trouble. Play to your strengths! Each captain and officer provide different bonuses to each kind of encounter," reads the Steam synopsis.

The system requirements for the game are pretty low, and almost anyone will be able to play it. Users will need at least Ubuntu 10.10 (basically any OS will work), a dual-core processor, 512 MB of RAM, a video card with 256 MB of memory, 300 MB of HDD space, and a mouse.

There is no launch date attached to the project for now.
