14 DAY TRIAL // Today, June 28, 2016, Oracle has announced the general availability of the VirtualBox 5.0.24 virtualization software for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.
VirtualBox 5.0.24 arrives less than two weeks since the debut of the previous maintenance update, VirtualBox 5.0.22, which means that it's a small release fixing some of the regressions introduced by VirtualBox 5.0.22, as well as various other bugs reported by users.
According to the release notes, VirtualBox 5.0.24 adds better support for Linux kernel 4.6 or later on GNU/Linux hosts, fixes the graphical user interface (GUI) to work on the Solaris 10 operating system, and addresses a regression from VirtualBox 5.0.22 by re-implementing the old I/O-APIC code.
"This means that the networking performance with certain guests will drop to the 5.0.20 level," says the Oracle VirtualBox developers in today's announcement. "One workaround is to disable GRO for Linux guests."
Among other noteworthy changes, Oracle VirtualBox 5.0.24 adds better support for taking screenshots, implements dynamic re-attaching of input and output devices for Mac OS X hosts to provide better audio support, and introduces notifications for changes of the battery / AC state on laptops.
