The support cycle for this openSUSE is coming to an end

openSUSE 12.3 is now very close to reaching End of Life and the support cycle will be terminated in a few weeks’ time, meaning no more updates will be provided for the aging operating system.

When we say aging operating system, that's actually a relative term. The distribution was initially launched on March 13, 2013, but it has outlived its usefulness, especially since there are newer and better releases out there that can fill any void.

"The OpenSuSE maintenance team will stop releasing updates for openSUSE 12.3 soon. Having provided bug and security fixes for the last two releases and two months, we will stop releasing updates after Jan 4th 2015. This announcement holds true for openSUSE 12.3 only. As usual, the openSUSE project will continue to provide updated packages for the following releases: openSUSE 13.1 and openSUSE 13.2," reads the announcement.

To make one thing clear. OpenSUSE 12.3 users will be able to use the operating system even after that date and it will most likely work without any problems, but it will no longer be secure enough.

Users should really upgrade as soon as possible and they should download the latest openSUSE 13.2 from Softpedia and upgrade the system.
