Developers are preparing a new update for Ubuntu Touch

The Ubuntu Touch operating system is preparing for the seventh OTA update and developers have decided to hit the feature freeze milestone this week.

Because Ubuntu Touch is a very young operating system, it still lacks quite a few features and functions, which means that each new OTA update is usually very important and brings a ton of new stuff. This latest version will get some major improvements to the web browser, Unity desktop, and Mir, so it's easy to see why people should be excited about it.

"This week, according to the original planned schedule, would be the week of final freeze. We decided though that the best option would be to give people more time for landing bugfixes and start preparing the release candidate next week. This would mean that this week we'll do a final feature freeze instead," wrote Canonical's Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak.

The Ubuntu Touch platform is evolving before our eyes and it's interesting to see how each piece is fitted together. This week we also got some information regarding the number of Ubuntu phones in the wild, and we just found out that users will have to wait a little bit more until the new convergent phone from Bq is made available.

For now, we'll have to settle with the regular Ubuntu-powered phones, although it's interesting to note that the Meizu MX4 is no longer in stock for a few days.
