NetworkManager maintainer Lubomir Rintel today announced the release of the second maintenance version of the latest stable and most advanced NetworkManager 1.2 series.

NetworkManager 1.2.2 arrives on May 11, 2016, as a small point release for stable GNU/Linux operating systems that use this popular open-source network connection manager by default.

According to the release notes, major new features in NetworkManager 1.2.2 are the ability to read hostname under Slackware Linux operating systems, as well as the implementation of reliable and stable IPv6 addresses for default wired connections.

Additionally, the reading of port names under s390 systems powered by a Linux kernel from the long-term supported 4.4 series and newer branches should work as expected, and the nmcli component will no longer warn users about version mismatches.

Lastly, the dnsmasq DNS management mode has been updated to use dnsmasq's D-Bus API when making signal nameserver changes, the developer documentation has been improved, and various translations were updated.

Several other minor bugfixes landed in NetworkManager 1.2.2 as well, and if your GNU/Linux operating system uses NetworkManager 1.2 or later by default, you are urged to update to version 1.2.2 as soon as possible.

Alternatively, you can download the NetworkManager 1.2.2 sources via our website and compile the software by hand, though this method is recommended only for advanced Linux users.
