Lubomir Rintel informs users about the release and immediate availability for download of the sixth maintenance version of the open-source NetworkManager network connection management utility for GNU/Linux operating systems.

According to the release notes, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, NetworkManager 1.0.6 replaces NetworkManager 1.0.4 in all Linux kernel-based operating systems that use the software, as version 1.0.5 was never released.

Highlights include support for Wake-on-LAN configurations, the ability to override the MTU for team devices, support for locking connections to a specific channel within a certain band, better detection of capture portal, as well as performance and stability improvements.

Mobile Broadband is now the preferred route through Wi-Fi network connections when both are available on the host system. Last but not least, NetworkManager 1.0.6 now exposes a flag for determining whether a certain network connection is metered via client tools or the API (Application Programming Interface).

As usual, you can download the NetworkManager 1.0.6 sources right now from Softpedia, but it is recommended that you check for the new version on the default software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution in the next hours or days. NetworkManager 1.0.6 is already available for Arch Linux users.

Once again, we remind you that NetworkManager 1.0.6 replaces the NetworkManager 1.0.4 packages that are currently installed on your Linux kernel-based operating system.
