GNOME's Florian Müllner announced the release of two maintenance versions for GNOME's window manager and compositor, Mutter 3.18.1 for GNOME 3.18.1 and Mutter 3.16.4 for GNOME 3.16.

Let's start with the new features and bugfixes implemented in the first maintenance release of Mutter 3.18, which is currently distributed as part of the recently released GNOME 3.18.1 desktop environment.

Mutter 3.18.1 brings improved HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) support on the Wayland display server, introduces support for full-screen and non-fullscreen animations, and it no longer hides the titlebar buttons in dialogs.

Moreover, a number of six crashes have been plugged from Mutter 3.18.1, along with a fix for a doubly-scaled cursor issue on XWayland HiDPI. Four other miscellaneous bugs have been addressed as well in this maintenance release of Mutter 3.18.

On the other hand, Mutter 3.16.4 resolves a glitch with certain full-screen applications, fixes a screen update issue with the proprietary Nvidia graphics driver, patches three random crashes, and repairs a number of four miscellaneous bugs.

All users of the GNOME 3.16 and GNOME 3.18 desktop environments are urged to update their Mutter packages to version 3.16.4 and 3.18.1 respectively as soon as possible. As an alternative, you can download the Mutter 3.18.1 and Mutter 3.16.4 sources right now from Softpedia. Below, we've attached the internal changelogs for Mutter 3.18.1 and Mutter 3.16.4.
