14 DAY TRIAL // Today, December 22, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has sent his last daily report for 2015, informing us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers on the mobile operating system that powers the Ubuntu Phone devices.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the day of December 21 didn't bring many changes for the upcoming Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 software update, which should see the light of day early in 2016, around January 20, with the exception of fixes for the qtmultimedia component and a new device tarball.
However, the big Mir landing that we reported on a couple of days ago introduced a regression, so the Mir team is now trying to fix it as soon as possible. Additionally, the Ubuntu Touch developers can't land new features and changes to the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) branch just yet because of some build issues due to the new GCC 5.3.
"Not too many changes landing right now," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. "That being said, I am now going on a holiday leave until next year - so no daily e-mails until then. [...] Let me use this occasion and wish you all a happy new year - see you once again in around 2 weeks! Let's make 2016 another great year for Ubuntu Touch."
Therefore, being the winter holiday season and all that, the Ubuntu Touch developers will take a two-week break from the development of the mobile OS. The OTA-9 feature and string freeze is expected on January 5, 2015, followed closely by the final freeze on January 8. Until then, there will be no Ubuntu Touch landing-related news articles on our website.
