Just a few moments ago, Canonical published a new security notice to inform users of the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system about the availability of a new kernel update.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-2967-1 has been published today, May 9, 2016, and includes information about eighteen kernel vulnerabilities that have been patched in the Linux kernel packages of the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is supported with critical security patches and software updates until April 2017, so those who still use this Ubuntu version need to upgrade their systems as soon as possible to patch the vulnerabilities mentioned in today's security notice.

The new kernel version is linux-image-3.2.0-102 (3.2.0-102.142), and it is available for all supported hardware architectures, including 64-bit, 32-bit, PowerPC (PPC), ARM HighBank, and ARM OMAP.

To update, open the Unity Dash, search for the Software Update utility and apply all the available updates by clicking on the "Install All" button. Alternatively, you can open the Terminal app and run the "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" command.

Make sure that you reboot your operating system after the update has been successfully applied, in order for the new kernel version to be activated. It's a pretty important kernel update, so please update immediately!
