The development team of the Lubuntu Linux operating system were among the last to announce the release of the first Beta build of the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) release for opt-in flavors.

Powered by Ubuntu 15.10's Linux kernel 4.1 LTS, Lubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 is still built around the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) graphical desktop interface for GNU/Linux distributions. Of course, this means that we won't be able to try the next-generation LXQt desktop environment on Lubuntu at the moment, but it should be integrated until the release of the Final Beta build on September 24.

"We’re preparing Lubuntu 15.10, Wily Werewolf, for distribution in October 2015. With this first beta you can see what the next version will contain. We have some interesting things happening, so read on for highlights and information. LXQt is still in development, so Wily Werewolf is another bug fix release using LXDE," reads the announcement.

Those of you who want to take the first Beta build of Lubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) for a test drive can download the 64-bit or 32-bit Live CD ISO images of Lubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. However, please keep in mind that this is a pre-release software, not suitable for production use. For a list of known issues, we recommend reading the release notes on the Ubuntu Wiki website.
