The development cycle of Linux kernel 4.2 starts

In a recent Google+ post from June 27, the father of Linux, Mr. Linus Torvalds, revealed some interesting information about the next major version of the Linux kernel, for which the development cycle might start in a few days with the first RC (Release Candidate) version.

According to Linus Torvalds, it would appear that the wonderful team of kernel developers and contributors are in the middle of the merge window, and they will end up merging more commits for Linux kernel 4.2 than they were during all of the releases of Linux kernel 4.1.

"4.0 was pretty small (by our modern standards, which is to say it was still a lot of changes), 4.1 was about average, and it looks like 4.2 may end up being the biggest release (in number of commits, at least) we've ever had," says Linus Torvalds in the Google+ post. "So much for the summer slowdown."

The development cycle of Linux kernel 4.2 might start this coming weekend with the first Release Candidate version, and it should have about seven or eight RC versions until the final release, which might see the light of day sometime in the fall of 2015.
