Linus Torvalds has just announced that the seventh and most probably the last Release Candidate (RC) version of the forthcoming Linux 4.2 kernel is now available for download and testing.

Looking at the shortlog attached by Mr. Torvalds, we can notice that Linux kernel 4.2 RC7 is a pretty small Release Candidate that brings with it mostly updated drivers, especially for things like networking, Xen, GPU, MD, and NTB, but also some architecture updates and various non-driver networking updates.

"So this may be the last RC, and it might not be. It will depend on whether anything more comes up next week, and how good I feel about things come next Sunday," says Linus Torvalds. "A part of me is convinced that all the odd 32-bit compat issues etc fallout is finally fixed, but a part of me is still a bit leery."

According to Mr. Torvalds, the final release of the Linux kernel 4.2 might come out next Sunday, but it will depend on how many patches will be pushed until then. If things calm down, we will see the release of Linux kernel 4.2 on August 24, 2015. Until then, you can download Linux kernel 4.2 RC7 right now via Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website and start testing it.
