Designed for the next major version of the KDE desktop environment, KDE Plasma 5.5, the KDE Applications 15.12 project includes all the great KDE apps that users love, now ported to the next-generation KDE Frameworks 5.

It is a metapackage and features applications from all areas, such as development, education, games, graphics, Internet, multimedia, office, system, as well as utilities. All of them include various KDE apps that are used by default in the KDE desktop environment.

"Today KDE released the release candidate of the new versions of KDE Applications. With dependency and feature freezes in place, the KDE team's focus is now on fixing bugs and further polishing," reads today's announcement.

Now that the Release Candidate build of KDE Applications 15.12 has been seeded to users worldwide, the development cycle has ended, and the final release of the project will see the light of day on December 16, 2015.

The software suite will have three maintenance releases: KDE Applications 15.12.1, which should arrive on January 12, 2016, KDE Applications 15.12.2 on February 16, and KDE Applications 15.12.3 on March 15, 2016.

Until then, you can download the binaries of KDE Applications 15.12 Release Candidate for different GNU/Linux operating systems from the project's website and help the KDE developers discover last-minute bugs.
