The 2.1 version of illume OS, a full-featured operating system designed to be used on desktops, notebooks, Netbooks, and other systems, has been officially released and it's available for download.

illume OS 2.1 has been dubbed “Aarhus” and it's a major security-focused update from the previous release. According to the developers, this version brings several new security features, which should help repel DNS and other forms of attacks.

“For the very first time in illume OS’s history, it’ll be possible to upgrade* to the latest version of illume OS via the new installer,” reads the official announcement.

A few new applications have been added, including PortSentry (an app that prevents portscanning), Fail2Ban (an app that blocks ‘foreign’ IPs if malicious activity is detected), GNOME Nettool, better ClamAV components (antivirus modules), and a few others.
