iO is a new type of 2D platformer developed by Gamious and published on Steam by KISS ltd. A Linux version was also made available, along with the support for the other platforms.

The Linux platform has no shortage of 2D platformers, but it looks like iO doesn't really want to fit into a particular genre. The game features some rather abstract graphics and a convoluted gameplay, which only add to its depth. In fact, iO is probably a lot more complicated than it seems at first glance.

"iO is a physics platformer in which you control a ball. By growing or shrinking the ball you can influence its speed and weight. Use these mechanics to gain momentum and make your way through the levels. Toy with the laws of physics, solve the puzzles and reach the exit as quickly as possible. Can you win the gold medal in all levels?" reads the Steam synopsis.

The players will get to experience over 150 levels, but they are all pretty simple and they should not pose any problems for people with low-end hardware. You will need to have at least Ubuntu 10.10, 2 GB of RAM, a Shader model 2.0 video card, and 500 MB of HDD space.

The game also features a 15% discount that is scheduled to end on December 12.
