It looks like Aspyr Media only ported the game to Mac OS X

Homeworld Remastered Collection was released by Gearbox Software after the company bought the rights to the franchise from the former owner THQ. It has recently been released for the Mac OS X, but it looks like Linux won't be joining anytime soon.

Gearbox Software surprised everyone when it bought the rights to the Homeworld franchise from THQ. The studio showed that it wanted to support the Linux platform as well, and a number of its titles have been released for Linux as well, like a couple of Borderlands games. The Linux community had hopes that Homeworld Remastered Collection would also arrive for Linux users.

In fact, Gearbox Software contacted Aspyr Media to take care of the porting process for Mac OS X, but there is no word of the Linux platform. Aspyr Media even mentions this in their announcement for Mac.

"As of right now, Homeworld Remastered Collection for the Mac is only available on the Mac App Store. Mac players can pick it up for $34.99. However, there will be a Steam version for the Mac, as well, though there’s no ETA on a launch date. (Sorry, Linux players - no planned Linux version at this time.)"

It's not like Gearbox Software said no to this proposal, and they have changed their mind in the past, so a Linux version of the Homeworld Remastered Collection is still possible.
