We reported a couple of months ago that a group of Ubuntu Touch developers started developing a new core app for Canonical's mobile operating system, a viewer for documents created with the open-source LibreOffice office suite.

Entitled Ubuntu DocViewer or Ubuntu Document Viewer, the application is currently in development, created by Stefano Verzegnassi and Roman Shchekin. The app is now being known among Ubuntu users as LibreOffice Doc Viewer.

After announcing the progress made on the LibreOffice Document Viewer app for Ubuntu Touch a few days ago, Stefano Verzegnassi today posted the first ever photos of the application, as a teaser for the community.

As you can see from the two images attached at the end of the article, the LibreOffice Doc Viewer app runs on a BQ Aquaris Ubuntu Edition phone powered by Ubuntu Touch. The application lists existing documents from your smartphone.

Clicking a document, you will be able to see it in full size. The number of pages is displayed at the bottom of the screen. The app will support the most common types of documents, such as Word, Presentation, or Excel.

The LibreOffice Doc Viewer for Ubuntu Touch app will see a first release this fall, but the developer promises to integrate much more powerful features in upcoming versions, such as the ability to display a presentation from an Ubuntu phone to a projector .

Below we've attached a recent video that showcases the LibreOffice Doc Viewer app on the Ubuntu Desktop (Unity 7) computer operating system, where the entire development of the application takes place, of course.
