The GNOME Project has been happy to announce that this year's GUADEC (GNOME Users And Developers European Conference) event will take place between August 12 and 14 in Karlsruhe, Germany.

GUADEC is the place were all GNOME developers and contributors gather together to share their ideas and plan the next major release of the popular, free, and open-source GNOME desktop environment used in numerous Linux kernel-based operating systems worldwide.

GUADEC 2016 will be held at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, a world-renowned research and educational institution. There, the GNOME developers and hackers will attend various workshops, and plan and create new features for the upcoming GNOME 3.22 desktop environment.

"We are proud to have GUADEC in Karlsruhe this year and look forward to welcoming the GNOME community in our beautiful city. With the Gulaschprogrammiernacht (GPN) we have a large hacker congress in the city and having GUADEC here will further strengthen the local open source community," said Benjamin Berg, a local organizer.

If you noticed above, we've said "GNOME 3.22," but there's no official information yet to confirm that the next major version of the GNOME desktop environment will be GNOME 3.22. That and many other juicy details will remain to be revealed to us after the release of GNOME 3.20 on March 23, 2016.
