The GNOME Project is about to release the RC (Release Candidate) development milestone for the forthcoming GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, so many of the project's core components and applications have received various improvements and new features.

Today, September 17, we inform you that the Mutter window manager and compositor, as well as the GNOME Shell user interface, received new RC builds as part of the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.18 RC, introducing fixes for last-minute bugs and implementing minor improvements.

Mutter 3.18 Release Candidate adds support for scaling cursors on HiDPI screens, fixes a bug with the key state on FocusIn that occurred when running nested, no longer hardcodes card0, instead it now finds the right DRM device, and it won't ignore background colors of wallpapers that do not fill the screen. There are also code cleanups and miscellaneous bugfixes.

On the other hand, GNOME Shell 3.18 Release Candidate fixes a race that occurred when attempting to load multiple background animations and updates the Kazakh, Korean, German, Norwegian Bokmal, Farsi, Japanese, Czech, Finnish, and Italian language translations.

You can download the Mutter 3.18 Release Candidate and GNOME Shell 3.18 Release Candidate sources right now from Softpedia, but you should wait for the final release of the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, which will see the light of day next week, on September 23, 2015.
