The GNOME developers are still working hard these days to prepare the first point release of the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, so many package maintainers are releasing updates as we speak.

The Nautilus (Files) file manager component has been updated to version 3.18.1, a bugfix release that plugs multiple crashes, repairs the remote filesystem check for Google Drive, addresses an issue with the Properties not being available on various filesystems, and resolves a problem with the Trash on some filesystems.

The application now uses the GtkPlacesSidebar component of the GTK+ toolkit to provide users with a much better drag and drop experience and supports fetching of filesystem types asynchronously for the view to no longer get frozen randomly.

Additionally, there's now a fix for the calculation of operations button, which apparently was not displayed as fast as expected in big operations, and the 'Delete' shortcut has been modified to work for the 'Delete Permanently' function on filesystems that don't have support for trash.

Nautilus 3.18.1 is distributed as part of the upcoming GNOME 3.18.1 desktop environment, so we recommend that you check for an update in the coming days. Some GNU/Linux distributions already included this package, but you can download its source code right now from Softpedia and start compiling by hand.

The work on Nautilus 3.18.1 was done entirely by Carlos Soriano, and below we've attached the internal changelog for reference. Future releases of the Nautilus (Files) file manager will bring an all-new and awesome search UI, about which reported news a few days ago.
