14 DAY TRIAL // We reported two weeks ago that the GNOME developers were working hard on implementing Google Drive support in the acclaimed open-source desktop environment used in numerous GNU/Linux distributions and loved by hundreds of thousands of users worldwide.
Well, today is that day, as the GNOME Project has announced the release of the highly anticipated GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, which includes the Nautilus (Files) 3.18 file manager. According to its internal changelog, attached at the end of the article for reference, the software has just gained support for Google Drive accounts.
Nautilus 3.18.0 has been released earlier today, September 23, 2015, and it is mostly a bugfix release that addresses several sidebar and operation crashes, fixes an issue with the recursive mode of the search functionality, and repairs an issue with the desktop icons, which were not displayed from the start.
Moreover, an issue with the remote warning label not being displayed under certain conditions has been fixed, a crash in the new Other Locations view has been patched, better file renaming positioning is now used when using keyboard shortcuts, and the right file number is now used when copying or moving files.
Nautilus 3.18 is now available for download as a source package from Softpedia for those of you who want to compile and install it on a non-GNOME distribution of GNU/Linux, but it is being distributed as part of the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, as of today.
