14 DAY TRIAL // A new development release of the Nautilus (Files) file manager has been published as part of the second Beta milestone towards the upcoming and anticipated GNOME 3.18 desktop environment.
Nautilus 3.18 Beta 2 (technical version number is 3.17.91) is here to fix various issues that have been reported by users since the first Beta build of the software. For example, there's been a lot of cleaning up for the views, as well as some ground work for code isolation, along with several fixes and improvements to the new "Other Locations" view.
Progress button animations have been adjusted, there will be no more items on the filechooser sidebar, remote locations won't be searched recursively (feedback will be provided automatically if it happens), and sorting on the Recent and Search views has been disabled in order to improve the correctness of the criterion.
Furthermore, all language translations issues have been tracked and fixed, some major races and crashes have been addressed, and automatic opening of folders has been disabled during hovering on drag-and-drop operations. Also, there's now a setting in the Preferences for disabling automatic opening of folders.
You can download Nautilus (Files) 3.18 Beta 2 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use. The development cycle of Nautilus 3.18 will continue with an RC (Release Candidate) build on September 16 and will conclude with the final release on September 23, distributed as part of GNOME 3.18.
