The Debian-based Tails amnesic incognito live system, also known as the anonymous operating system, has been updated today to version 3.0.1, the first point release of the major Tails 3.0 stable series.

Launched last month on June 13, 2017, Tails 3.0 is the biggest update of the GNU/Linux distribution so far, entirely based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system and designed to work only on 64-bit computers. It's also the first release to switch to the modern GNOME 3 desktop environment by default.

And now, almost three weeks later, the first point release of Tails 3.0 is out with a few updated applications, such as the latest TOR 0.3.0.9 client and server, Linux kernel 4.9.30-2 from the Debian Stretch repositories, as well as the latest security patches and a handful of bug fixes.

Among the improvements, we can mention that the interaction between the GNOME Keyring app and SSH was enhanced, the behavior of the "lid close" and "power button" actions in the Greeter were made consistent with the default GNOME session, and the Tails Installer no longer rejects valid USB drives.

Tails 3.0.1 is now considered the latest and most advanced version of the anonymous live system, which you should download and use if you want to stay anonymous while surfing the Internet or doing other things online. On the other hand, existing users can upgrade from version 3.0 to 3.0.1 as we speak.
