Alexander Roshal and RARLAB announced this past weekend that the first Beta build of the upcoming RAR and WinRAR 5.30 popular archive manager software was available for download and testing for all supported operating systems, including Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and Microsoft Windows.

According to the changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, most of the changes were implemented in the WinRAR version of the software that was designed exclusively for the Microsoft Windows operating system.

However, there are various other interesting new features and improvements for GNU/Linux and Mac OS X users as well, such as support for folder wildcards in archive file names with automatic recursion, as well as support for displaying the file time in the YYYY-MM-DD format using the "v" and "l" commands.

Also, the folders outputted after the extraction of .7z archives now display modification time, and the "test" command is now capable of verifying the contents of NTFS alternate data streams in archives created with versions of RAR from 3.x to 5.x.

Download RAR 5.30 Beta 1 for GNU/Linux and Mac OS X systems, as well as WinRAR 5.30 Beta 1 for the Windows platform right now from Softpedia. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and we don't recommend installing it on production environments.
