FFmpeg, a complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video, is now at version 2.7.2 and is ready for download.

The 2.7.x branch of FFMpeg is not an old one, and the developers have just started to update it. This is just the second maintenance release for FFmpeg, and it comes with numerous updates and various fixes. It's the best version right now, but it will take a while until it hits repositories.

"2.7.2 was released on 2015-07-20. It is the latest stable FFmpeg release from the 2.7.2 release branch, which was cut from master on 2015-06-09. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2015-06-10, libav 11 as of 2015-06-11" is noted on the official website.

The following packages have been upgraded and are now available: libavutil, libavcodec, libavformat, libavdevice, libavfilter, libavresample, libswscale, libswresample, and libpostproc. FFmpeg is the leading multimedia framework able to decode, encode, transcode, mux, demux, stream, filter, and play virtually any media that humans and machines have created.

A complete list of updates, features, and other fixes can be found in the official announcement. The source package for FFmpeg can be downloaded from Softpedia, but this is just the source. You will need to compile it yourself, although it would be a better idea to wait until it hits the repositories.
