14 DAY TRIAL // Well, believe it or not, the upcoming Fedora 24 Linux operating system has been delayed once more, this time due to a bug in the GRUB2 bootloader, where the OS wasn't capable of booting on a Dell Precision M6800 machine with Windows 10.
The decision to delay the June 14 release of Fedora 24 was taken today, June 9, during the usual Fedora 24 Final Go/No-Go meeting. This is the fourth delay for the Fedora 24 Linux operating system, and it now looks like the final launch should happen on June 21, 2016.
"The decision of the Fedora 24 Final Go/No-Go Meeting is NO-GO. Due to a blocker bug and subsequently missing Fedora 24 Final RC compose it has been agreed on the Go/No-Go meeting to slip the Final release of Fedora 24 for one week," said Jan Kurik, Fedora Program Manager at Red Hat.
Of course, there will be another Fedora 24 Final Go/No-Go meeting, currently planned to take place next Thursday, on June 16 at 17:00 UTC. But the probability for the Red Hat sponsored GNU/Linux operating system to get a fifth delay is very small. By then, the respective bug, and other issues should be resolved.
Fedora 24 promises to bring many exciting new GNU/Linux technologies, among which we can mention Linux kernel 4.5, the GNOME 3.20, and KDE Plasma 5.6 desktop environments, LibreOffice 5.1 office suite, and many others. The Fedora 24 release schedule has not yet been modified with the new release date. Stay tuned!
