14 DAY TRIAL // We reported yesterday, March 28, 2016, on the release and immediate availability for download of the Fedora 24 Alpha Linux operating system, which includes a preview of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.
Of course, only the Workstation Live Edition of Fedora 24 Alpha includes the GNOME 3.20 packages by default, so considering the fact that the acclaimed desktop environment has been recently released, we thought that it would be a very good idea to take a quick look at it and publish here a screenshot tour.
At first glance, it doesn't appear that the GNOME Shell user interface has been changed a lot; in fact, it looks pretty much the same as it was in the GNOME 3.18 release. However, as we reported last week, during the launch of the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, most of the cool new features are in the core GNOME apps.
It looks like Fedora 24 Alpha currently ships with the GNOME 3.20 Beta 1 packages, but we're pretty sure that the final GNOME 3.20 release will be available in the main software repositories of the operating system very soon. Another interesting aspect is that the distro ships with Linux kernel 4.5 Release Candidate 7, the last RC in the series.
Most of the GNOME apps are installed by default
Another thing that caught our attention was the selection of pre-installed software, which is quite poor in the Workstation Edition, consisting only of the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, and LibreOffice office suite, besides the standard apps from the GNOME Stack, of course.
