14 DAY TRIAL // While the GNOME developers have already released the third development milestone towards the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment, it appears the some of its core components have not even gotten a release from the 3.19 devel branch.
This is the case of the Epiphany software, GNOME's default and only web browser application, which was updated on December 9 to version 3.19.1, the first development milestone towards Epiphany 3.20.
Looking at the internal changelog, attached at the end of the article for reference, we can notice some interesting new features in Epiphany 3.19.1, such as the addition of a new download manager and the enablement of WebAudio and WebGL by default.
Moreover, web apps now have categories, the Cookies dialog has received a search function, key-bindings can now be properly propagated to pages, the floating bar can be hidden on mouseover, and the about:applications page has received improvements.
Epiphany now supports system-wide installations of web apps, provides a much-improved ad blocker, uses x-scheme-handler to get default web browser information, supports notification requests in web apps, and includes code and build fixes.
Last but not least, the application now warns users only about unsubmitted changes if the respective form contains text, displays insecure content warnings on all insecure websites, and greatly improves the Application dialog for passwords, cookies, history, etc.
Language and help translations have been updated as well in Epiphany 3.19.1, which can be downloaded right now from our website. However, please note that this is an early preview of Epiphany 3.20, and it shouldn't be installed in production environments.
