digiKam Software Collection, the digital photo management application for the KDE desktop and not only, which includes an image editor for photo corrections and manipulation, is now at version 4.5.0.

The digiKam collection of tools has been getting important changes in the last few months, and this latest upgrade brings a few interesting features. There is nothing that really stands out, but if you are a regular user, it might be a good idea to get the new version.

"The digiKam Team is proud to announce the release of digiKam Software Collection 4.5.0. This release includes bugs fixes and switch as optional some dependencies as libkipi, libkface, libkgeomap dedicated respectively to support Kipi plugins, Face management, and Geo-location maps. By this way we will be able to port digiKam to KF5/Qt5 step by step. The digiKam software collection tarball can be downloaded from the KDE repository," said the devs in the official announcement.

Also, it's worth noting that even if digiKam runs best in a KDE environment, it doens't mean that it won't work in other environments as well. For example, the screenshots you can see in the gallery below were made in Ubuntu 14.10, and the software worked just fine. The only inconvenience is that it needs to be compiled.

The complete changelog for digiKam can be found on the official website. You can download digiKam 4.5.0 sources right now from Softpedia.
