digiKam Software Collection, the digital photo management application that works best on KDE desktops, has advanced to version 4.7.0 and is now available for download.

The digiKam collection of tools has been updated once more, but users should not get their hopes up. It's a minor maintenance release, but the developers have reminded us that the KF5 port is still in the works and it's one of the main goals.

"A new year, a new release... The digiKam Team is proud to announce the release of digiKam Software Collection 4.7.0. This release includes many bugs fixes from Maik Qualmann who propose patches to maintain KDE4 version while KF5 port is under progress," reads the official announcement.

Even if digiKam works best in a KDE environment, it's not bound to it and the application can run on basically any platform. This means that you can use it in Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, and so on.

The complete changelog for digiKam can be found on the official website. You can download digiKam 4.7.0 sources right now from Softpedia, but it will require compilation. The best solution is to use the official repository on a KDE distro, like Ubuntu. It's not impossible to compile, but it has a ton of dependencies.
