After introducing the first maintenance version of the soon-to-be-released Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environment, the most anticipated release of Cinnamon, Clement Lefebvre presents the second point release.

According to the internal changelog, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, Cinnamon 2.8.2 is a small bugfix release that addresses some of the remaining issues before the desktop environment is officially announced by Clement Lefebvre later today, October 31, or tomorrow, November 1, 2015.

Among the fixes, we can mention that Cinnamon 2.8.2 now uses subprocesses instead of commands module, adds a link to the input method of mintlocale in the Settings app, updates the pot file, and repairs an issue with the get_object_for_uuid() function in the appletManager.js file, related to appletObj's empty index.

Moreover, there's a fix for a crash caused by the dispose method in the st-container.c file, as it would appear that priv->children got updated during destruction of each child, which led to invalid pointers when emphasizing through it. The issue has been fixed using the clutter_actor_destroy_all_children class.

Cinnamon 2.8.2 is available for download right now, and package maintainers are urged to download it and prepare for the final release of the desktop environment so that they can quickly deploy it on their GNU/Linux operating systems. We should have more news about the official release of Cinnamon 2.8 later today.
