A small release that fixes a couple of issues

The developers behind the popular Cinnamon open-source desktop environment, a fork of the GNOME Shell user interface of the acclaimed GNOME 3 desktop environment, have released a new maintenance build for the Cinnamon 2.8 series.

As of November 26, 2015, Cinnamon 2.8.6 is officially the latest stable and most advanced version of the desktop environment used by default in the Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" operating system.

According to the internal changelog, which we've published at the end of the article for reference, Cinnamon 2.8.6 is a small release that fixes a couple of issues discovered in various core components since Cinnamon 2.8.5.

The first issue fixed in Cinnamon 2.8.6 is related to the Window List (window-list) component, which is now capable of correctly scaling the window previews on HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) displays.

The second issue fixed in the sixth maintenance release of the Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environment is related to the popupmenu.js script, which now, thanks to Dexter Chua, features better-written documentation.

Last but not least, the Launcher Editor (launcher-editor) component of Cinnamon has been updated with an implementation of the idea described at https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/4849, replacing the current behavior.

The same behavior implemented in the Launcher Editor will also be added to directory-editor.ui. All users of the Cinnamon 2.8 desktop environment are urged to update their installations to version 2.8.6 as soon as possible.

The Cinnamon 2.8.6 should arrive in the default software repositories of various GNU/Linux distributions in the coming days, so make sure that you check for updates periodically. Alternatively, you can download the Cinnamon 2.8.6 sources and compile the software by hand.
