The Wine Staging development team announced today the release and immediate availability of the Wine Staging 2.4 milestone, which comes about two weeks after the previous maintenance update.

While it's based on the Wine 2.4 development release, Wine Staging 2.4 is not a major version and only implements some additional System/Process/Thread information values and classes, improves the GDI+ scaling performance, and completes the object type implementation.

Various other smaller enhancements are also part of today's Wine Staging 2.4 release, along with all the goodies from Wine 2.4, such as an updated Mono engine, simulated italic and bold in DirectWrite, XML reader improvements, as well as the extra Direct3D command stream work.

On this occasion, we remind you that Wine 2.4 has better support for the Kontact 5.6, QuickBooks 5.0, Lotus Smartsuite 3.1, AcdSee Pro 9 (64-bit), Polaris Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Poedit, Gómez PEER Zone, and Native Instruments Native Access 1.0.25 (R37) Windows applications.

In the same manner, the Wine 2.4 improves the DOOM, Aliens vs. Predator (2010, Steam), The Next BIG Thing, The Secret Files 3 Demo, Galactic Civ 3, Rollcage Redux 1.3.8, and Steep (Ubisoft) Windows games. Wine Staging 2.4 also has some bug fixes of its own, so we recommend checking the release announcement page for more details on that.

In the meantime, you can download the Wine Staging 2.4 source or binary packages from our website or directly from the software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution and update your installation as soon as possible if you fancy running Windows games and apps on your Linux PC.
