Now available for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows OSes

The first point release of the Audacity 2.1 software, an open-source audio editor for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, has recently been released and introduces new and anticipated features.

According to the release notes, Audacity 2.1.1 adds support for seeking and scrubbing, as well as backwards playback. There's also support for finding a precise position in the audio file thanks to the latest updates to Quick-Play.

It is now possible to install plugins without having to restart the application, as well as to add and remove generators and effects from the menus. Additionally, Audacity 2.1.1 introduces faster processing of edits when working with longer projects that have a duration of a few hours.

Among other interesting features, we can mention support for presets in effects, the Hard Limiter effect has been replaced with Limiter, the Vocal Removal cross-fade effect has been updated, and there are several VI usability enhancements and performance improvements.
