Zorin OS, a multi-functional operating system based on Ubuntu and designed specifically for Windows users who want to have easy and smooth access to Linux, is now at version 6.0 RC.

According to the developers, Zorin OS 6 RC is the most advanced operating system they have built. It has a new desktop environment called “Zorin Desktop” that replaces others like Unity, GNOME Shell or Cinnamon.

Zorin Desktop is based on GTK 3 and other packages from the GNOME 3 suite, but it's still retaining the Windows 7 look and feel. A tool called Zorin Look Changer can be used to switch between Windows 7, XP, and GNOME 2 "desktops."

Zorin OS 6.0 RC also uses AWN as the default panel, a new redesigned Software Center, Linux kernel 3.2, Zorin Web Browser Manager, and a lot of other improvements and features.

We also have to mention the distribution is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which means it will benefit from five years of security updates.

Download Zorin OS 6 RC right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
