Canonical launched its XFCE-based operating system, Xubuntu 13.04 Beta 2 (Raring Ringtail), and it seems that it's not all that different from the previous version.

The developers of Xubuntu have stated that the latest version is just a maintenance release and there aren't too many new features.

The main highlights are a new version of Catfish (1.6), some updates for the Greybird theme, a few improvements for Thunar, an updated Parole application (0.5.0), and the reintroduction of Gnumeric and GIMP.

The distribution has become bigger and bigger over the past years and it no longer fits on a CD. To install Xubuntu, you will need other media such as an USB device or a DVD. Download Xubuntu 13.04 Beta 2 (Raring Ringtail) right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a beta version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
