Developers from Egosoft are looking to launch a Linux port

X Rebirth, a space-trading and space combat game developed by Egosoft, will be getting a Linux released soon, although it's not yet clear when that will happen.

Egosoft is not exactly a beginner when it comes to Linux ports. In fact, X3: Reunion was made available for the Linux platform for quite some time, and it was to be expected that the next one in the series would benefit from the same treatment.

The information about the Linux port for X Rebirth is rather sparse, and no date or time frame has been provided. The devs have been talking about the development process on the official forums.

"Welcome, we'll be sharing some of the technical nitty-gritty stuff we're working on here. Feel free to ask anything you might be interested in!  Since I'm the lucky one responsible for the linux/mac port, I'll probably be discussing that along with opengl/dx the most. But anything is welcome, maybe? We'll see how things progress," wrote a developer on the official forums.

X Rebirth was initially released for Windows users back in November 2013. It wasn't a smooth launch and Egosoft had to push many updates until the game became playable. It had mixed reviews on Steam, but they seem to have gotten better in the past few months.

More details about X Rebirt can be found on Steam.
