Canonical revealed that Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems have been updated in order to couple X.Org X server vulnerabilities that have been found by devs.

A couple of issues have been found on X.Org X server and the Ubuntu maintainers have been quick to upload the new packages to the repositories. This means that they are now ready for upgrade.

"Olivier Fourdan discovered that the X.Org X server incorrectly handled XkbSetGeometry requests resulting in an information leak. An attacker able to connect to an X server, either locally or remotely, could use this issue to possibly obtain sensitive information," reads the security advisory. You can also check the other problem which only affected Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

For a more detailed description of the problems, you can see Canonical's security notification. Users are advised to upgrade their systems as soon as possible, especially since this is a complicated core component and it needs a lot of attention.

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes. Users will have to reboot the system in order to complete the upgrade process.

You can also use the terminal to update the system. Just enter these commands in a terminal near you:

code
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
